Check self assessment (PP65M.15.1-Slide 2)
Introduce problems and discuss strategies (PP65M.15.1-Slide 3).
Talk Time (Pairs organised by ability)
Partners work together to solve problems. If finished, learn times table. LA concentrate on number bonds, times tables, targets or work with support in a pair or support from teacher.
Go through workings and answers.
Main (10 mins)
If needed, as a class, mark and evaluate any questions that were not covered in lesson 14. (PP65M.15.1-Slides 4-21)
Organise the class into mixed ability groups and number in terms of ability (from LA to HA) and ask them to come up with group names. Order and change (if needed) the questions in the quiz to suit the number of abilities.
Remind the class about strategies in answering questions (PP65M.15.2-Slide 2). Explain that they will compete in a group to answer questions. Each member of the group will be called up to listen to and read a question and write an answer on a whiteboard. If they are stuck on the question, they may have a multiple choice option with three lifelines per learner to choose from- ask their group to vote, ask one person in their group (the same person cannot be asked twice) or a 50/50 choice to narrow the answers. However, the points awarded decrease if they choose multiple choice and then again if they need to use lifelines. Bonus points will be awarded on use of strategies to answer. Change rules and points if desired. (PP65M.15.2-Slide 3)
Model answering and award marks after each question totalling to find the group winners. Add marks for group behaviour and teamwork. (PP65M.15.2-Slides 4-22)
Groups (35 mins)
Mixed Ability Groups
