Plans

The cover uses detailed, thorough and extensive plans, which can be changed and shortened to suit your class and teaching.

Plans are straightforward so that they can be simplified to one level of ability if needed. Some lessons are split so that half of the introduction is for an ability grouping, who then work independently while the teacher introduces and guides the other ability grouping. Modelling and consideration of time is stressed in each plan.

We have aimed to differentiate to allow a solid base to differentiate further if needed.

Texts

Unit class texts are written with consideration of the length and complexity of national assessments and national curriculum levels. They also consider the curriculum objectives that are to be taught in the unit and include examples that can be referenced to exemplify teaching during lessons. They are written by teachers and edited by the established author John Mole.

The class text ‘glues’ the teaching, theme and animations together, providing ‘real’ contexts for learning.

Presentations

Presentations are used for each lesson.  They provide a consistent structure, and include set points to include effective teaching strategies e.g. talk time, assessment for learning, modelling etc.

Colours, pictures and animations are used throughout the presentations to allow for different learning styles, highlight patterns and make learning memorable.

Teacher Support

Throughout the unit, resources are provided to support cover teachers in the lesson. These are there to boost confidence and give teachers the background to a lesson (if needed).

Modelled writing is provided during writing sessions to support preparation and integrate learning objectives from a unit. Of course, this should be used by the teacher as support and not take the extremely important place of shared writing.

Answer sheets are also provided for cover teachers and use in peer assessment, along with modelled answers in reading comprehensions.

Worksheets are provided for support, to allow independence in groups that are not working with the teacher, to differentiate for a wide range in abilities and to allow flexibility in a lesson.

Learner activities

Learner activities allow cover teachers flexibility to support or challenge as required through differentiation. They are modelled during teaching and are straightforward whilst allowing for extension. Extra activities are provided and these are relevant and allow for independence.
