We have differentiated our activities to four abilities in our plans. More often than not, there is the scope to increase or decrease this differentiation, and this is up to the individual teacher, depending on his/her class.

We have differentiated by task, grouping, resources, pace, outcome or support. One of the key principles behind Teaching Alive is to include all learners in a theme. Thus we have aimed for a wide differentiation in our learning, sometimes including other year group’s objectives in our plans. This is also affected by our organisation of an assessment group in the class and also a presumption that the teacher has no support in the lesson.

We also aim to challenge all learners in our texts and our lessons, allowing all abilities to achieve their potential in an area. We feel that if a learner is safe in their learning, is confident, gains success and is challenged then enjoyment will follow, alongside improvement of course.
